Mahindra turns the KUV100 NXT into a subcompact van for the SAR

The Mahindra KUV100 is a tiny 3.7-meter long hatchback that debuted in India four years ago and received a facelift version called “NXT” in 2017. The model is currently available in multiple countries, and this week, the South African Republic gets its own microvan-shaped version.

The new KUV100 is called the #Xprez. It comes based on the standard trim level with an air conditioner, ABS, EBD and two airbags, but also features a radio, a central lock and a fire extinguisher. The rear seat row is gone, replaced with a stainless-steel mesh for separating the cargo from the passengers. There are metallic panes covering the windows, and two more meshes are provided for easy partitioning of the cargo area. The trunk space amounts to 1,350 liters (47.7 cubic feet) – several times more than the 243 liters of the KUV100 (8.6 cu. ft.). The nominal weight capacity is 350 kilograms (770 pounds).

The car relies on a 1.2-liter three-cylinder mFalcon engine to propel it forward with the help of 83 hp (62 kW), 115 Nm (84 lb-ft) and a five-speed manual transmission. The five-door hatchback version of the Mahindra KUV100 is also available in South Africa (see the gallery and the video).
