Mahindra yields to FCA demands, agrees to redesign Roxor

United States International Trade Commission (USITC) has joined FCA Group in its plea to ban Mahindra Roxor sales in the USA due to the car being confusingly similar to the Jeep CJ.

The India-based automaker originally reacted to the lawsuit by changing the radiator grille design in the 2020 year model, but this proved not enough by far to satisfy the demands made by Jeep. As a result, Jeep has banned all Mahindra Roxor sales in North America.

The manufacturer claims that no further design changes are necessary because the car went through a facelift in January. Despite this, it is willing to make further modifications “if necessary.”

The header pic you see here was released by Mahinda to announce the coming redesign. The off-roader is shown with a cloth on, so most details remain hidden from view. However, the round headlights are now spaced much farther apart, located almost above the wheels.

The ruling by USITC enters legal force on August 11, giving Mahindra some time to challenge it. What’s also important, the ban currently only concerns Roxor vehicles produced in 2018 and 2019, while the new 2020 model remains suspended in a legal grey area.
