Court decision greenlights India-made Jeep lookalike in USA

Since last year, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles had been trying to ban the Mahinda Roxor in the United States, arguing that the Indian SUV was a blatant Jeep Willys rip-off. The court had sided with the litigant, but a later ruling by ITC recalled the judgement.

For now, this means that the Indian automaker is free to advertise and sell the Roxor in the States after making certain changes in its exterior. Responsible authorities have already approved the specific modifications proposed as a means of settling the dispute, but the company never revealed them to the public at large. The International Trade Commission ruled that the revised design in no way infringes upon the rights of FCA Group. The corporation itself begs to differ – and says it will fight further.
