Indian automobile giant Mahindra will be unveiling an all-electric concept SUV known as Thar.e on August 15. In the meantime, the company has released some teaser pics.
The prototype EV is based on the gas-powered, body-on-frame SUV known as Mahindra Thar (see video). It was originally based on the Jeep Wrangler and still resembles it in form and function. Judging by these new images, its electric counterpart will be different in some departments – at least, the headlights.
Note also the lettering, ‘Re.Born Electric’. Among other things, it could mean that Mahindra went for a thorough redesign of the SUV in order to distance it from the Wrangler and be able to freely sell it worldwide. Jeep had sued the Indian automaker over the Thar before, but the new Thar.e could be different enough to be considered a standalone vehicle – time will tell.
