The Maruti Suzuki XL6 is an Ertiga-based ‘crossover van’

According to a variety of sources, Maruti Suzuki is readying a new XL6 MPV based on its Ertiga model. The car is being characterized as a ‘crossover van’. XL refers to its large size, while the 6 corresponds to the number of seats (the Ertiga has 7).

On the outside, the spied test mule looks more like an SUV than an MPV. The off-road body kit, roof railings and a whopping 180 millimeters of ground clearance all contribute to this impression. The radiator grille, headlights and bumpers are new.

Reportedly, the MPV will ship with the same drivetrain as the Ertiga. This means a 1.5-liter, naturally aspirated gasoline engine rated at 104 hp (78 kW) and 138 Nm (101 lb-ft) of torque, mated to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. There will be two premium trims to choose from, but the car will ship strictly front-wheel driven.

The official premiere in India is scheduled for August 21, 2019.
