Maserati is working on a brand-new car that it is apparently still reluctant to show us in its true form. Instead, the Italian carmaker teases us with some photos of a camo-clad pre-production test vehicle.
It is official that the car will feature a mid-engine layout. As for the body design, it looks nearly identical to the Alfa Romeo 4C, which that company discontinued a while ago.
Interestingly enough, the new Maserati will pack a proprietary engine purpose-built for the model. The company used to source its drivetrains from Ferrari, but that partnership deal is officially over now. Nothing is being revealed about the specs of the engine, but industry observers tend to believe that it is an inline-six unit that will later spawn an entire range of similarly-specced Maserati engines. As for the sports car depicted here, it might receive an all-electric version later on.
The premiere is already penciled in for May 2020.
