Maserati to axe Ghibli in 2022

Maserati will be getting rid of its most affordable model, the Ghibli, next year, leaving it without successor. The reasons for this are unknown.

One possible explanation is that the Italian carmaker wants to switch the customers’ attention to its smallest crossover SUV, the Grecale, which is slated to come out in 2022, as well as the larger Levante.

The current – third – generation of the sedan debuted eight years ago. It is currently available in 3.0L V6 and 3.8L V8 versions, as well a 3.0L six-cylinder diesel variant. Customers can choose between RWD and AWD, although the transmission in all cases is ZF eight-speed automatic.

The first-gen Ghibli came out in 1967 and was produced until 1973 in coupe and roadster forms. The second one went coupe only in 1992 through 1998, and the latest one is a sedan.
