Maserati unveils the last V8-powered Ghibli & Levante

This year marks the final production year of V8-powered Maserati cars, and the company hopes we will remember them for a while thanks to a farewell series called Ultima. The batch will include Ghibli and Levante cars, and the sedan is expected to become the world’s fastest four-door light passenger car when it debuts.

The number in the model name ‘Maserati Ghibli 334 Ultima’ refers to its speed in kilometers per hour (translates into 207.5 mph). The car retains its Trofeo V8 engine, but benefits from a boost to 580 PS (572 hp / 427 kW), which is why its top speed is 8 km/h (5 mph) higher than the Trofeo. Lighter construction and new tires also contribute to that result. The sprint time from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) is 3.9 seconds.

The number 334 and the company’s signature trident logo are embroidered on the headrests and applied to one of the front fenders in vivid red. The body makes use of assorted carbon-fiber parts, including a rear spoiler and side mirror cap just to name a few. The wheels come sized 21 inches in diameter and also sport a low-drag design.

For its own part, the Levante V8 Ultima gets the same engine, but rides on larger 22-inch wheels and gets more carbon-fiber trim bits all around. The performance data remains to be revealed.

Picking a custom exterior or interior color is not possible. Maserati will be making 103 royal-blue Ghibli models with the cabin timed in yellow and black and 103 black/blue Levante models with the same interior color scheme.

Prices haven’t been announced yet, but it stands to reason that both models will be priced high above the current Trofeo spec, which is not limited.
