Maserati announces electric SUV and convertible

Maserati has revealed some more specifics regarding its EV release schedule. In addition to electrifying its current lineup, the Italian sports car maker plans to unveil a brand-new large SUV and a GranCabrio Folgore.

The latter will be the first Maserati EV to arrive to the market this year. The company states that it is confident in the EV market potential, especially its premium segment, and is basing its current business model on this confidence. It also points out that it remains the only true luxury vehicle brand in the whole Stellantis Group.

Despite these bold claims, the new GranCabrio will be produced in both EV and ICE variants this year. In 2025, an EV powertrain will become available for the MC20, which is currently available in two body styles: coupe and Cielo (roadster). Both utilize an in-house-designed 3.0-liter turbocharged V6.

In 2027, a crossover SUV is scheduled for debut that may end up becoming the next Maserati flagship for years to come. At this time, the company says it envisions it exclusively as an electric car. A battery-powered Quattroporte successor, the development of which had previously been put on hold, is expected to reach the market in 2028.

The company points out that it will be designing all new models in Italy. to which purpose it has already assembled a team of 130 professionals. The same goes for production, which will be organized in Modena not far from Maserati HQ. Judging by the small hints in the press release, the Italian marque’s electric vehicles will be positioned as more upmarket and deluxe than their gas-powered counterparts.
