Giant automotive corporations buying out car brands and passing drivetrains around is just the way things are in the modern world. Developing your own engine takes a great deal of time and money, so only few can afford it. Maserati says it can.
Speaking in an interview to Autoblog, Federico de Medio, one of Maserati executives, said the company would never make its proprietary Nettuno V6 engine available to other Stellantis Group brands.
The unit currently powers the range-topping Grecale SUV (see the gallery and the video), where it pumps out 530 PS (523 hp / 390 kW) and 620 Nm (457 lb-ft) of torque. The MC20 supercar gets considerably more thrust out of the same block at 630 PS (621 hp / 463 kW) and 730 Nm (538 lb-ft) of torque.
Medio admitted that it was technically quite possible to install the Nettuno engine in other Stellantis cars, but emphasized that Maserati wanted to keep it exclusively for itself. The Italian marque has big plans in store for the six-cylinder twin-turbo, planning to put it inside most of its future performance cars.
