Two name entries have recently been added to the Guinness Book of Records: that of Jamie Barrow, a snowboarding enthusiast, 25, and one Maserati Levante, a crossover SUV. The former has been officially recognized as the world’s fastest-going snowboarder, while the latter was the reason behind that achievement. Clever, huh?
The luxury SUV towed Barrow across the icy surface of a lake in Switzerland in a stunt not many would have the heart to reproduce. A total of two runs were performed. The sportsman accelerated to 151.57 km/h (94.18 mph) on his first attempt and managed to squeeze out 147.72 (91.79) on his way back. He thus averaged 149,65 (92,99) – the best result for a snowboard ride worldwide, with the next best one now lying in ruins some 50 km/h (31 mph) below.
In case you wondered, all Maserati Levante come with 3.0L bi-turbo V6 engines whose performance varies from 350 up to 430 horsepower, depending on the model.
The car that participated in the record-setting run wore heavy-duty Pirelli Scorpion winter tires with over 450 spikes per tire, so ice traction was hardly an issue.
