In his Sunday Times column, the famous British TV host and car aficionado admitted to wasting an hour trying to figure out how one leaves the Maserati MC20. Glaringly poor ergonomics aside, he actually liked the supercar.
Clarkson said he received an MC20 for a spin as a prominent car reviewer and took one of his colleagues, Lisa Hogan, to a dinner in a restaurant. However, upon arriving at the spot, neither he nor she could locate the door handles.
It eventually turned out that opening the door necessitated pressing a very small and discreet button – Clarkson actually had to turn on the flashlight on his phone to locate it. As soon as he got out of the car, however, it started rolling down the slope. To figure out how to engage parking mode, he had to consult Maserati customer service.
The above notwithstanding, Clarkson said he was impressed with the looks of the sports car and its superior comfort and handling compared to the competition.
The Maserati MC20 debuted in the fall of 2020. Its 3.0-liter V6 churns out 630 PS (621 hp / 463 kW) and takes it from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.9 seconds. An open-top version of the car has already been teased on photos and is set to debut later on.
