The Maserati GT2 Stradale is racing-inspired, but street-legal

Maserati has unveiled its most extreme road-going supercar of all: the GT2 Stradale. It is based on the “civilian” MC20 chassis, but takes after the track-focused MC20 GT2.

This is evident from the first glance at the body kit, which comprises a large front splitter, a rear wing for 500 kilos (1,100 lbs) of added downforce, and vents in the frunk lid and fenders. The arches are occupied by 20-inch lightweight forged wheels with Brembo calipers visible behind the spokes.

Inside, the center console and the seats have been redesigned to minimize curb weight. You can choose from two seat size options. Cloth loops for door handles are included as standard, and the steering wheel has a LED RPM display on it. Interestingly enough, the base trim still includes an infotainment system, 6 audio speakers (upgradable to 12) and a wireless charger pad.

A tuned 3.0-liter twin-turbo Nettuno V6 sends 640 PS (631 hp / 478 kW) and 720 Nm (531 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels. That’s 10 horsepower more and 10 Newton-meters less than the standard MC20. The eight-speed DCT and rear-wheel-drive system are the same. The car sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 2.8 seconds – one tenth of a second faster than standard – and hits its limit at 324 km/h (201 mph).

The suspension gets the same range of track-friendly adjustments as the MC20 GT2. In particular, a new preset called Corsa allows drivers to customize the degree of ADAS involvement. The most experienced drivers can even buy a Performance Pack to get access to Corsa Evo, a fully customizable drive preset. The same package brings along an electronic diff lock, Michelin rubber and carbon-ceramic brakes. A fire extinguisher and four-point safety harnesses are available separately.
