MatchBox toy car brand gets immortalized in cinema

Skydance Studio and toy manufacturer Mattel have partnered up on a full-length feature film dedicated to the MatchBox toy car badge, reports Deadline. There is still no premiere date, but some info is already available.

For instance, the director is none other than Sam Hargrave, who is mostly famous for Extraction movie franchise, but is also an experienced stunt coordinator. Among other things, he supervised the stunts in a number of Marvel’s Avengers movies and Deadpool.

The story is a bit too early to talk about, but we are looking forward to a family-friendly story rich in dizzying stunts. As for why Hollywood would be interested in breathing life into MatchBox cars in 2024, we suspect that the box office success of Barbie played a significant role. That, and MatchBox is almost as popular of a brand as Hot Wheels is worldwide.

Jack Odell founded the toy car company in 1953. The legend goes that he produced the first tiny car for his daughter to be able to play at school breaks like she wanted. Apparently, the school had a very specific rule regarding toys: only those that could fit inside a standard box of matches were admitted.
