As you may remember, Mazda promised us the comeback of rotary engines quite a while ago. So far, the car company has only fulfilled its promise to a certain extent. Sure, modern hybrid cars use rotary engine tech to generate electricity. But what about a full-fledged rotary-engine based sports car?
The company says it is also possible – if not exactly soon. “We cannot afford to release a rotary-engine model right now,” Mazda CEO Akira Marumoto admits. “However, it is my goal to make it real. We are all dreaming about it and want it to become reality”.
Well, it looks like Mazda fans just have to brace up and wait until mass-producing such cars becomes feasible. Maybe one of the show cars the company has demonstrated us recently will evolve into a production model with a rotary engine at its core. Who knows?..
