Mazda makes the Skyactiv-X engine range part of its full-size car chassis

Mazda has released detailed information about its upcoming Skyactiv-X range of inline-six engines. According to the company, it will install these engines on all full-size cars that take advantage of a new chassis design (still unannounced; likely RWD).

The Japanese car manufacturer will soon switch to using only two main architectures for car production: the Small Architecture and the Large Architecture. As you can guess from the title, the former will be mainly suited for compact vehicles. Mazda says those will get Skyactiv-G/D and X engines, as well as hybrid powertrains.

The Large Architecture will be ideal for large cars packing Skyactiv-X inline-six gasoline and diesel engines. It will also accommodate mild and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

The latest Mazda3 was the first vehicle to take advantage of a Skyactiv-X engine. The two-liter unit comes equipped with a supercharger and SPCCI and outputs over 180 hp (134+ kW) along with 222 Nm (164 lbĂ—ft) of maximum torque.
