Mazda launches the new 2 Hybrid in Europe

The Mazda 2 Hybrid only debuted in December last year, but you can already buy it in the Old World countries. The hatchback comes based on Toyota Yaris units and runs on a 1.5-liter non-turbo three-pot rated at 92 PS (91 hp / 68 kW), sans options.

An electric motor assists the main engine with 80 PS (79 hp / 59 kW) of its own, but their combined output is still modest at 116 PS (114 hp / 85 kW). Sprinting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 9.7 seconds. The car burns through less than four liters of gas per 100 kilometers on average (59 MPG for our North American readers).

Customers in France can buy the base trim level (out of three) starting from €21,500, while a similar Yaris would set you back at least €22,450. Those in the UK will have to hand over £20,300 for the Mazda clone or £20,820 for the Toyota original. The main difference is that the latter can be acquired in a pure ICE car form, without the electric motor.
