Following the recent crowning of the Peugeot 208 the European Car of the Year 2020, the time has now come to determine the international winner. The leading trio comes from Asia this time around and includes the Kia Telluride, the Mazda3m and the Mazda CX-30.
On an interesting side note, both the Europe and World titles in 2019 went to the same model, specifically the Jaguar I-Pace. The Suzuki Jimny won Urban Car of the Year. This time around, the latter title is disputed among the Volkswagen T-Cross and two battery vehicles – the Kia Soul EV and the Mini Electric.
The Executive Car nomination will be played out between the Porsche 911, the Mercedes-Benz EQC and the Porsche Taycan (the current titleholder is the Audi A7).
The McLaren 720S will soon yield its Best Sports Car moniker to one of the Porsches: 718 Spyder/Cayman GT4, 911, or Taycan. The Taycan additionally fights for the Best Design award against the Mazda3 and the Peugeot 208. The Jaguar I-Pace won both Best Design and Best EV in 2019.
The jury board includes 86 reporters from numerous countries. The results will be announced at the New York International Auto Show on April 8, 2020.
