The turbocharged Skyactiv-G 2.5 PY-VPTS engine has already found its way into Mazda 3, Mazda 6, CX-5 and CX-9 models in the USA, and the compact-sized CX-30 will be joining the club soon.
Compared to its naturally aspirated sibling (see photos and the video), the turbo’d CX-30 will sport larger tailpipes, special badges, black 18-inch wheels and black side mirrors.
Engine efficiency will depend on gasoline quality, Mazda reports. It will amount to 230 hp (172 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) when using 92 RON (87 AKI) gas, rising to 253 hp (189 kW) and 434 Nm (320 lb-ft) if you tank 98 RON (93 AKI) instead. Six-speed auto gearbox and on-demand AWD will be standard features in all trims.
According to a media review, the stronger and heavier Mazda CX-5 2.5T gets from zero to 60 miles per hour (0-97 km/h) in slightly under 6.5 seconds. It weighs around 100 kg (220 lbs) more than the lower spec.
The turbocharged Mazda CX-30 lineup will arrive priced between U.S. $31,000 and $35,000.
