The alleged data leak (see the pic in our gallery) suggests that the Mazda CX-5 will be reborn as the CX-50 in two years’ time, gaining RWD and the same engine layout as the new CX-6.
The car will become larger and more powerful than its predecessor, the source claims. In its entry spec, it will ship with a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine assisted by a small electric motor. This mild-hybrid spec will reportedly churn out 190 hp (142 kW) and 270 Nm (200 lb-ft) of torque. Another option will allegedly come in the form of a 2.2-liter diesel turbo rated at 190 hp (142 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft).
A 2.5-liter turbo-four engine good for 230 hp (172 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque will occupy the middle ground, and there will be two top specs, the source reports. One will bundle a three-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine with a 48V electric starter for 285 hp (213 kW) and 340 Nm (251 lb-ft) of torque. The other one will utilize a 3.3-liter diesel turbo engine for the same 285 hp (213 kW), but superior 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque.
Mazda has not commented on the leak yet.
