It is official that Mazda is currently designing a RWD platform with a longitudinally mounted engine for its new Mazda6 model. An unconfirmed source now claims that the upcoming CX-5 will be based on it as well.
If true, the crossover SUV may come powered by the same range of gasoline and diesel inline-six engines as the sedan, ranging between 3.0 and 3.3 liters of displacement.
The new CX-5 should come out in 2022 and mainly compete with the new Mercedes-Benz GLC line.
