2022 Mazda CX-5 strips down for patent photos

The Ministry of Industry of China has uploaded the mandatory patent images of a facelifted Mazda CX-5. Compared to the pre-facelift SUV shown in the video here, the new version coming up later this year sports design tweaks and a new multimedia system, while the powertrain stays stock.

New bits are few and far between. The radiator grille boasts a new pattern, and the bumpers are very slightly redesigned. The exhaust pipes in the rear apron have been moved to the sides. The lights have the same shape, but new internals.

The test vehicle was photographed riding on 19-inch wheels, but it is unclear what size will be available in the base spec. Interior shots haven’t been made so far, but a larger multimedia display is high on our list of expectations.

The patent states that the car is 4,575 mm long, 1,842 mm wide and 1,685 mm tall with 2.7 meters between the axles. As such, it is marginally larger than the pre-facelift version. The length is the most changed parameter at +25 mm, likely due to new bumpers.

In China, the CX-5 will keep its 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engines rated at 155 and 196 PS, respectively.
