Mazda is a small car manufacturer compared to such giants as Toyota and Honda, but it has its own share of ambitions, too. The company is getting as many as five new CX-badged production cars ready to rumble, and the first one will be the CX-50.
While the higher-end models numbered CX-60 through CX-90 will use a newly designed RWD platform with inline-six engines and hybrid powertrains, the CX-50 will be much simpler built. It will share the chassis with the CX-30 compact and go on sale only in the North America.
While not official yet, we are pretty confident that the CX-50 will use a SkyActiv-G 2.5 engine rated at 250 PS (247 hp / 184 kW) and 434 Nm (320 lb-ft) of torque. Price-wise, it might cost a touch more than its smaller sibling, the CX-5, which retails for $25,370.
The video teaser accompanying the announcement shows a crossover SUV being driven through a rainy forest with a kayak on its roof. The car itself is exceedingly hard to see, so a better solution would be to wait until the premiere on Monday, November 15, 2021.
