The model year 2021 starts next month in the United States, so many manufacturers try to approach it with a slightly refreshed model range – a new trim here, a new paintjob there. The Mazda CX-9 gets quite a bit more than that.
The main new addition comes in the guise of the Mazda Connect infotainment system, which is included in all specs and boasts a large 10.25-inch display. Not long ago, Mazda infotainment screens were limited to 7 and 9 inches across. Wi-fi, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are all standard features, and the seats have been revised for ergonomics.
Customers who want the most out of their large SUV can now opt for Carbon Edition, a new version shipping in Polymetal Grey body with black radiator grille, side mirrors, 20-inch wheels and interior details. The seats wear red upholstery, and the only inexplicable detail is that the manufacturer never mentions carbon fiber anywhere except the name.
Everything stays stock from the technical point of view, the 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder still churning out its usual 253 hp (189 kW) and 434 Nm (320 lb-ft) of torque. The drive can be on the front axle or both of them.
Sales begin late this August starting from $34,000 for the base specification.
