Mazda CX-70 premiere date announced

Mazda has put a launch date on its long-anticipated CX-70 crossover SUV primarily targeted towards North America. According to Car&Driver quoting the automaker’s Canadian website, the full reveal will take place on January 30, 2024.

A pic accompanying the announcement shows a draped-over vehicle with no distinguishing traits to speak of. It is even unclear whether it is a CX-70 or just a generic rendering used purely as an illustration. In fact, if we were to assume that it’s indeed the new CX-70, then its outlines look entirely different from the CX-90 flagship that it was originally supposed to be based on (see video).

Most reviewers agree that the image has nothing to do with the car, though. The new SUV will most likely look like a smaller, five-seat version of the CX-90. It will also inherit some powertrain options from its larger cousin.

Thanks to patent applications filed by Mazda in the United States some time ago, we already have an idea what these will be. The CX-70 will ship with two variants of Mazda’s 3.3-liter six-cylinder engine and a hybrid system based on a 2.5-liter engine. All-wheel-drive will be available in all versions.
