The North American office of Mazda has announced the intention to stop manufacturing the CX-9 SUV after the current model year. Other regions are scheduled to follow suit later.
The official reason is that Mazda has a new flagship now, the CX-90 (see video). It is based on an original architecture with a longitudinal engine mount. Like the CX-9, it is a seven-seater by default.
According to Drive, the recently introduced CX-90 is shaping up to be a considerably more expensive SUV owing to its premium status and novelty value. As such, it may enter the same market segment as BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
