More than three decades ago, Mazda felt like trying its luck in the premium car market. It founded a new marque called Eunos in Japan in 1989, which produced vehicles like the Eunos Roadster (essentially a localized open-top variant of the MX-5). The Roadster stayed in production until 1997, after which Mazda wrapped up the project as a failure.
The Eunos trademark makes its comeback now, albeit not as a standalone brand this time around. Furthermore, none of the cars will go on sale in Japan. Instead, the MX-5 Eunos Edition will emerge in France, and France only, limited to 100 units.
All cars will ship with the same black paintjob, matching unique wheels called Rays, Burgundy-tinted Nappa leather finish inside, and commemorative plaques drawing attention to the limited status of the series.
Lift the hood to be greeted by the standard 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine sending up to 184 hp (137 kW) to the wheels by means of a six-speed transmission (you may choose manual or automatic).
The standard equipment list includes a range of safety aids, a multimedia system, and a Bose nine-speaker audio set,
The Mazda MX-5 Eunos Edition will start at €34,600 in France, contrasted against the €28,900 of the base model.
