Mazda Miata flaunts a 500-HP V8 swap

Flyin’ Miata is a tuner shop based in Colorado, USA whose sole specialization is the Mazda MX5 Miata. Much of the time, the roadster gets body kit or suspension parts from tuners, but this particular specimen boasts an engine swap.

The stock four-cylinder with its 135 hp (100 kW) flew out and a massive Chevrolet LS3 V8 made its way under the hood. The tuner never specified the power, but you can bet it is no less impressive than the factory-promised 430 hp (321 kW).

Now, doubling the cylinder count is never easy, and this Miata was no exception. Even when the team stripped the hood cover of its noise insulation and experimented with fitting the huge 6.2-liter mill underneath, it only barely manages to squeeze it in. The feeble stock transmission also couldn’t hope to cope with the new torque, so a Tremec T56 took its place.

The on the outside, the roadster mostly looks stock except maybe for the valve-controlled exhaust system. Flyin’ Miata says it can ship the engine swap kit to anyone interested, but prices are something you will have to haggle for yourself.
