A decade ago, Alfa Romeo announced an intention to team up with Mazda on a Spider version of its Miata (MX-5) roadster. Those plans never came to fruition, but someone from the UK managed to carry out the conversion on their own.
The poster of the images did not say who the car belonged to, but it was present at the MX-5 owners’ gathering in the UK. At the front end, the grille boasts a heart-shaped molding and a couple of built-in DRLs, making it look almost-but-not-quite like the Alfa Romeo grille. Things get much towards the rear end, though, with the wheels being practically indistinguishable from the originals and a very convincing rear bumper, too. The top is absent as it should be, and the interior is not shown except for one AR logo embossed into seat leather (looks like the stock trim).
Powering the Spiata – the marriage between a Spider and a Miata – is the standard EU-spec 1.5-liter non-turbo engine rated at just 132 PS (130 hp / 97 kW).
