Mazda has unveiled a racecar prototype in Japan named MX-5 Spirit Racing Roadster CNF. The car, which runs on synthetic fuel, will celebrate its motorsports debut at the fourth stage of Super Taikyu Series at the Autopolis Raceway in Hita, Japan, on July 29–30.
In the meantime, the carmaker gave us a single preview pic of the car. Compared to the standard MX-5 model shown in the rest of the gallery and the video below, it has a new front splitter, a large rear wing, new wheels and tires and a livery with Bridgestone logos and the starting number 12. The racer will compete in the ST-Q category packing a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated Skyactiv-G engine under the hood. The stock version of the engine runs on petrol.
The ST-Q category of Super Taikyu Series is reserved for vehicles not homologated for any other categories. Companies use it to try out experimental designs, including alternative fuel powertrains.
