Mazda MX-5 gets updated with new headlights and multimedia features

Mazda has put some more polish on its MX-5 roadster, but only in Japan for the time being. Both the standard version and the Targa hardtop have been improved. The base price has gone up from ¥2,689,500 to ¥2,898,500.

Starting with the exterior, all lighting is now LED-based. The daytime running lights are new, and the taillights boast a 3D effect of sorts. Aside from that, customers in Japan can now specify Aero Grey Metallic for the exterior finish.

Inside, there is a new Mazda Connect infotainment system with an 8.8-inch display. The driver assist package now includes adaptive cruise control and automatic braking while reversing.

Mazda hasn’t forgotten about the stick-shift enthusiasts, putting a new and improved limited-slip differential in the manual MX-5. The power steering has been upgraded, too, and the entry-level 1.5-liter engine now pumps out 135 PS (133 hp / 99 kW) – 4 horsepower more than it did before the facelift.
