Missing in Action No More: Le Mans Mazda RX-7 254i found in Japan

For three and a half decades, the unique Le Mans Mazda RX-7 254i sports car that was last seen at The Fuji 1000 Kilometers race in 1984, has been considered lost to the public. However, a few days ago the vehicle was unexpectedly sighted in a remote area of Japan.

Mr. Tachimoto, former Technical Director of Mazdaspeed, testified that the spotted Mazda RX-7 254i was genuine. He was able to arrive at this conclusion after examining its custom-designed brakes and suspension, as well as the chassis, which the vehicle shared with its predecessor, the 253i.

Mazda has only ever produced two such cars, one of which was subsequently wrecked beyond repair on a racetrack.

According to the media, the Japanese manufacturer intends to restore the race car to its former glory and then use it in future racing events. RE Amemiya will be tasked with restoring the original rotary engine, while Powercraft will handle the bodywork.
