There are two ways to become an owner of a cool supercar: first, toil throughout your entire life hoping to eventually save up enough cash to afford one. Second, take a more affordable car and tune it to hell and back. Guess which way Adam Taylor (Oahu, Hawaii) went with his ride.
The guy has spent 10 years building his unique supercar. He did it whenever he had some time free from his college and, later on, his job. The end result is what you can see on the photos.
Taylor named his car “RX-777”, and it doesn’t take a pro to see that he started with a normal Mazda RX-7. He turned it into a vehicle that weighs 1,225 kilos (2,700 lbs.) and is wider than the Dodge Viper while at the same time sporting a shorter wheelbase than that of the Mazda MX-5 Miata.
The front looks clearly inspired by Hot Wheels builds (you may actually see Hot Wheels stickers on the tires), and the headlights look borrowed from an Aston Martin Vantage. The rear, in turn, resembles the Lotus Elise more than anything else. Considered as a whole, though, the supercar looks uncannily reminiscent of the Banshee 900R featured in the video game GTA V. Perhaps this is what the tuner’s primary source of inspiration was.
The RX-777 comes powered with an LS V8 engine allegedly churning out 950 horsepower (708 kilowatts). Taylor doesn’t provide any standard sprint times, but mentions that it can go up to 320 km/h (200 mph) without a hitch.
