1989 Mazda RX-7 fetches a record $63k at an auction

Bring a Trailer just helped find a new owner for a 32-year-old rotary-engined Mazda RX-7, who ended up outbidding their opponent from $30,000 to a record $63,000 in just three hours.

The coupe – which currently has around 3,500 kilometers (2,170 miles) on the odometer – was imported new into the United States, and had belonged to one owner since 1995. In all likelihood, the owner considered it a valuable investment – hence the low mileage.

The car features plenty of premium trim options, including two sets of 16-inch wheels, black leather interior, cruise control, a stereo system with an EQ, and a power-assisted sunroof.

Found under the hood is a stock 1.3-liter rotary engine boosted from its original 185 PS (182 hp / 136 kW) to 205 PS (202 hp / 151 kW) straight at the Mazda factory. The transmission is five-speed manual.

Bring a Trailer says that the previous price record was set just a month ago, when a 33-year-old RX-7 brought home $28,500.
