Despite the skyrocketing prices for the used Mazda RX-7, owners still cannot resist the temptation of modding them. One such example is here before you: made in 1993, it was later retrofitted with a turbo setup and other mods.
The current owner bought it five years ago and swapped the original engine out for a three-rotor one. He then added fuel injectors 1 and 2.2 liters large and a fuel pump borrowed from a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. The transmission and RWD were allowed to stay stock.
According to the tuner, the output at the wheels should be somewhere in the 550-600 horsepower range, although this remains to be measured. A swap like this is very labor-intensive, and could easily come in at $40,000 USD if he let a shop do it. Luckily, he had all the skills to carry out the project on his own.
The result is a car with excellent road and track credentials, one that handles nicely and has plenty of power. The latter is evidenced by occasional bursts of fire from the exhaust.
