Luxury car manufacturer McLaren has officially announced the fifth Longtail model in its lineup. Called the 600LT Spider, it will be manufactured for a period of one year and sell at over £200,000 on its domestic market in Great Britain.
The exclusive supercar series is essentially a ‘fully-loaded’ version of the McLaren 570S. Among other things, it sports a shortened exhaust system design (like in the Senna) and flaunts a carbon diffusor.
Compared to its coupe predecessor, the roadster is a mere 50 kilograms (110 lb) heavier. It is also a whole 100 kg (220 lb) lighter than the 570S Spider. Although, truth be told, these figures are valid for the MSO Clubsport trim version which adds £18,200 to the price tag and brings in carbon-fiber replacements for numerous components, including the seats, as well as titanium wheel bolts.
The 600LT Spider sports a three-piece hard top that can be automatically folded and unfolded as long as the car is moving at 40 km/h (25 mph) or less.
The engine bay holds a 3.8-liter turbocharged V8 rated at 600 hp (447 kW) linked to a seven-speed semi-automatic transmission. The vehicle only needs 2.9s to sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph). With its roof extended, it can ultimately hit 324 km/h (201 mph) on a straight highway. With the roof folded down, it maxes out at 315 km/h (196 mph).
