McLaren conceptualizes Formula E 2050 racecar

McLaren Applied Technologies, an automotive company and part of the McLaren Group, has come out with a design study called the MCLExtreme. The designers claim all Formula E 2050 racecars will wear active aerodynamic kits that would adjust their shape on-the-fly.

In particular, you may notice that the prototype vehicle has an air cowl at both sides that can expand and contract for maximum acceleration and stability. Apparently, the gills of the white shark that work in a similar manner provided the scientific basis for the innovative tech.

Another major feature comes in the form of a virtual assistant, whose task is to provide status information about the car, offer strategy tips and track the physical condition of the driver.

All-electric racecars will be able to replenish up to 50% of their charge within 30 seconds by using wireless charging tech. They will also have wheels made of a self-healing composite material. These might even be configured to vary their backlight depending on the current emotional state of the driver.

McLaren Applied Technologies also assumes that major changes will be made to the racing driver’s uniform by 2050. The company expects innovative nylon, aluminized Mylar and thermal plastic to become the main materials of choice.
