The British luxury carmaker is testing the Speedtail, its fastest super coupe so far. The car will emerge as an homage to the iconic McLaren F1 that used to be the world’s fastest mass-produced vehicle in 1993 through 2005.
The first concept version of the Speedtail debuted in December 2018 (see video). It came equipped with a V8 engine rated at 756 hp (564 kW) and an electric motor adding another 312 hp (233 kW). Outfitted like this, it could sprint from zero all the way to 300 km/h (186 mph) in 12.8 seconds – 2.7s faster than the McLaren P1 and 0.3s faster than the Bugatti Chiron. The top going speed is 403 km/h (250 mph).
McLaren limitsd the production run to 106 copies priced around U.S. $2.3 million each. The entire series has already been sold out in pre-orders, even though shipping will not begin until next year.
