McLaren has just introduced its newest speedster, the Elva, which references the same-name iconic supercar from the 1960s and accelerates faster than the Senna.
The car comes powered by a four-liter turbocharged V8 rated at 800 hp (596 kW), which works in tandem with a seven-speed DCT. Sprinting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes less than three seconds, and hitting 200 km/h (124 mph) is a matter of only 6.7 s. This makes the Elva faster than the company’s current flagship, the Senna.
Interestingly enough, the windshield comes as a paid option. The British luxury carmaker claims that its absence by default will not be inconveniencing to most customers because of flawlessly executed aerodynamics. The latter refers to the active wind deflectors, air openings in the hood, and air intakes in the upper front fenders. Curiously, the company then goes on to specify that the car features a dedicated storage compartment for two racing helmets.
A total of 399 speedsters will emerge, priced from $1,690,000 USD each. Sales will begin in late 2020.
