Too Hot or Not: This McLaren Senna burning down in Portugal is the 3rd in a year

A McLaren Senna was filmed catching fire and burning down completely in the city of Braga, Portugal, marking the third such incident over the past 12 months or so.

The fire department says the fire started in the engine bay. Since the car was standing in the middle of a road, someone must have driven it and got out when the fire started – but the details are missing right now.

Last July, another Senna went down in flames during a demo drive, and a blogger filmed a video in early 2019 telling the story of his hypercar burning down within 11 days from purchase. The engine bay was once again to blame for the incident.

On an interesting side note, McLaren recalled 129 Senna units sold in North America over alleged wiring issues. The company claimed that the defect could potentially lead to a drop in power output, emergency engine stopping, and the injection of non-ignited gasoline into the catalyst (perhaps the highlight of the whole story). At any rate, an investigation is underway to determine the reasons and find solutions.

The McLaren Senna owes its name to thrice-crowned F1 Champion Ayrton Senna. The total production run amounted to 500 units. Each comes equipped with a twin-turbocharged V8 rated at 800 hp (596 kW) that takes it from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in mere 2.8 seconds and all the way up to 340 km/h (211 mph).
