Engineers of the luxury car company McLaren have launched initial tests of their latest full-electric sports car prototype. According to Dan Parry-Williams, McLaren Engineering Chief Designer, the vehicle will have a running distance of roughly 500 kilometers (310 miles).
He also said that the company already has a development mule of the car, but its mass production won’t begin anytime soon. McLaren is currently trying to address the most urgent issue with its e-vehicle: namely, fitting it out with batteries large enough to run the entire race without the need to recharge.
The battery-powered racer is the first instalment in the Ultimate Series, a new top-performance car series by the British manufacturer. Only 5 cars of this type will be produced for McLaren’s closest strategic partners.
It isn’t the first time the company deals with electricity-driven vehicles, however. Another one, a hybrid concept named McLaren P1 was demonstrated as early as 2013.
