McLaren goes environmental

The British supercar manufacturer McLaren has said it was planning a switch to hybrid engines for all of its future series-produced vehicles – a decision that’s in line with the times, all things considered.

According to McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt, the next sport car generation will take advantage of an updated version of the Monocel platform which supports hybrid engines.

The Sport Series car family will be the first to make the switch, followed by the Super Series. The latter won’t be re-issued with hybrid engines until 2022, however.

Does this mean that McLaren will never build another purely gasoline-powered vehicle? Not exactly, but these will be produced in small series only.
