Netflix has shared a two-minute-long trailer of an upcoming mini-series dedicated to Ayrton Senna, triple Formula 1 champion whose life prematurely ended on track three decades ago. The video focuses on the events of the Brazilian Grand Prix of 1991.
The mini-series is called “Senna” and is loosely based on the racing driver’s biography, although Netflix admits it is largely fictional. By the time depicted in the trailer, the legendary Brazilian racer had been crowned as the F1 champion twice, but had yet to score a victory at his home country’s F1 racetrack. It looks like this is what the first episodes will be dedicated to.
Gabriel Leone, who starred in the U.S.-made Ferrari biopic last year, is once again playing the main role, this time behind the steering wheel of a McLaren MP4/6. The series also provides a glimpse at other prominent racers of that period, including Nelson Piquet, James Hunt and Niki Lauda.
