A video has recently gone viral depicting a slew of expensive automotive exotics being turned into heaps of scrap metal in a marine port in the Philippines. McLaren, Porsche, Lotus and Bentley vehicles can be seen among the victims.
According to reports, the authorities ordered the destruction of 21 luxury cars worth around U.S. $1,100,000 in total that day. Apparently, this is the country government’s harsh way of reminding everyone that tax evasion is unacceptable.
The list of scrapped vehicles includes an extremely rare McLaren 620R imported into the country last year and mislabeled as a Porsche Cayman in the clearance documents. Its owner ended up paying $30,000 in taxes – around one-tenth of what he was obligated to pay by law.
There is something we would like to hear from you. What’s your stance on such measures? Wouldn’t it be better to, say, seize the cars, auction them off and redirect the proceedings to charity? Please share your opinion!
