Tuners transform a McLaren into a rotary drift machine

Multiple modding teams have joined efforts to rebuild a McLaren 650 GT3 into a truly unique drift car powered by roughly 1,000 horsepower from a Wankel engine. It debuted at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend, so let’s take a closer look.

The MadMac rides on the chassis and frame of the McLaren 650 GT3, but wears custom Lanzante bodywork on top of that, making it look a bit like the legendary P1. An over-the-top body kit from Rocket Bunny lends it a crazy street-racing aesthetic.

A peek inside the engine bay reveals a 2.0-liter, three-section rotary engine turbocharged to deliver around 1,014 PS (1,000 hp / 746 kW) to the wheels. A six-speed sequential transmission sends the momentum to the rear axle.

The tuners involved in the project say they completed it in as little as 100 days.
