Tuned McLaren 720S reports 800+ hp at the wheels

Some car tuners shun from dealing with the gorgeous McLaren 720S over concerns that they might end up actually spoiling the very nearly perfect supercar. Expert tuners like the Texas-based Hennessey Performance are a different story altogether. The company released a video not long ago demonstrating to us what the abovementioned car can look and sound like after a round of engine tuning.

In its production form, the McLaren 720S ships with a 4.0L V8 engine rated at 710 hp (720 PS / 530 kW) and 770 Nm (568 lbft) of torque. After visiting the Hennessey garage, this example churns out 809 hp (821 PS / 604 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lbft) of torque. Be sure to realize that the former is its nominal performance as measured at the crankshaft by the manufacturer, before you factor in any losses introduced by the transmission. The latter is its actual road performance measured at the wheels. Therefore, the real power boost is far greater than those 89 hp / 101 PS / 74 kW.

The Hennessey HPE900 power kit includes new turbochargers, intercoolers, air filters, a stainless-steel exhaust system, and an ECU remap.

The tuner said nothing about the acceleration of its modded 720S, but you may imagine it being faster than the production car, which sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 2.9 seconds and tops out at 341 km/h (212 mph).
