McLaren’s new ‘mini hypercar’ targets children between two and six years old

Luxury car manufacturer McLaren has launched a toy hypercar series called the 720S Ride-On. The plastic ride costs a mere £315 and is suitable for children 2–6 years old.

The technological base more or less corresponds to that of the older P1 model. There is a single electric motor linked to a three-speed gearbox. Curiously, the car uses speakers to simulate the engine soundtrack of a real hypercar whenever the gas pedal is pressed down. Children can control it using the steering wheel, but you can assist using a remote control if you wish.

The McLaren 720S Ride-On sports tiny but functional doors, a multimedia system with a predefined music playlist, a dashboard screen for watching cartoons and other entertainment content, and automatic brake lights.

As for the real-life McLaren 720S, the supercar comes powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine rated at 720 PS (530 kW) and sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in mere 2.9 seconds.
