Coronavirus puts a ban on the GIMS 2020

The Geneva International Motor Show 2020 in Switzerland is no more over government-voiced concerns about the worldwide spreading of Covid-2019.

The tradeshow, which had been originally scheduled to open on March 3, 2020 for the media and March 5-15 for the general audiences, fell under the governmental restriction imposed on all public activities and events with 1,000+ planned participants. The ban will remain in place until March 15 and could be extended beyond that date.

In related news, the 2020 Auto Beijing show in China, planned for late April, has also been canceled.

According to the latest press statement from the masters of the event, the participants will not be refunded their participation fees due to the force-majeure nature of the circumstances. The guest tickets and flights will be compensated, however.

Despite the grim outlook for everyone who invested substantial amounts in the canceled GIMS 2020, some companies have found workarounds. For instance, McLaren Automotive will arrange a special event in its Technology Center to ‘start a new chapter in the history of the Longtail.’ By the sound of it, the British sports car maker is going to treat us to the sixth instalment in the Longtail line, likely based off the current 720S (search the spy pics, you’ll find it).
