A Peccable Record: The McLaren 720S fails to score 0-300 km/h fast enough

Just have a look at this YouTube video showing someone attempting to accelerate their opulent McLaren 720S ride to 300 kilometers per hour (187 mph). The vehicle manages to achieve that in 27 seconds – now, wouldn’t you call that impressive?...

Not if you have read the manufacturer’s manual that clearly states that it should do the same in 21.4 s – i.e. 5.6 s faster than it did. Too bad the author of the video neglected to inform us whether the promised 0-100 acceleration in 2.9 s and 0-200 s in just under 8 s succeeded at all.

That said, the McLaren 720S supercar is not the best performer in the class when it comes to zero-to-top-speed acceleration. Bugatti Chiron is a remarkable example of a better runner: a recent video shows it tearing from a standstill to 300 km/h in vertiginous 13.1 seconds. Obviously, such vehicles as the Porsche Panamera, the Mercedes-AMG E 63, the Cadillac CTS-V and the BMW M5 are also far ahead of the 720S in this specific area.

The rear-driven McLaren 720S sport car saw its debut in spring 2017. It comes equipped with a 4.0L V8 engine good for 720 hp (537 kW) and a DCT box. Built around a carbon chassis for weight reduction, you can ultimately crank it up to above 340 km/h (253 mph).
