McLaren vows to get rid of non-electrified cars while preserving brand DNA

The British sports car maker plans to electrify its entire model range and keep it that way, McLaren CTO Charles Sanderson said in an interview with Car Sales. According to him, the McLaren 750S that debuted this spring (pictured below) may well end up being the company’s last non-electrified V8 car.

Speaking with the publication, Sanderson emphasized that hybridization has its advantages – that’s why McLaren added the Artura supercar to its lineup in the first place. On the other hand, ICE cars also possess unique qualities that McLaren drivers have come to appreciate over the years. As such, the company is still searching for the golden middle that would suit even the most demanding of its clients.

The ever-stricter environmental regulations are aggravating the issue, forcing many supercar manufacturers to switch to hybrid drivetrains. Still, according to Sanderson, the eco-friendliness of the Artura model more than compensates for the environmental damage inflicted by the 750S and its V8.

Both the coupe and the Spider variants of that car have four liters of turbocharged displacement and produce 750 PS (740 hp / 552 kW) alongside 800 Nm (590 lb-ft). They take 2.8 seconds to one hundred km/h and only hit their speed ceiling at 332 km/h (206 mph).
